| How
to Create Print Ready Files using QuarkXPress
(Please
also read the General Page Layout File Prep instructions)
Preferred
format is to save as an eps, tiff or PDF file.
Saving
as a tiff or pdf file will eliminate the need to send
your fonts and placed images when ready to print. If
you feel strongly about sending native Quark files, please
utilize utilities such as Quark's collect for output
or Markzware's FlightCheck to collect all the fonts and
elements you used to create the file. FlightCheck will
also review your files so you can see that all images
are CMYK, at least 300 dpi, and that all fonts are present.
The Good to Go utility on this website, a part of the
FlightCheck family of programs, can also help you perform
this step. It will check and collect the elements you
need to send your file for printing. If any elements
are missing or created incorrectly, the printing and
delivery of your job will be delayed while we contact
you for missing files or clarification.

To
Save as EPS:
From
the file menu, choose Save Page as EPS...On the first tab, set
the scale to 100%; format to Color; Space to CMYK; Preview to
TIFF; Data to Binary; OPI to Include Images. On the Bleed tab,
set the type to Symmetric, amount to .125.
You
will have to repeat this process for each page in your document.
Be sure to give aeach file a u;nique, easily identifiable name.
You must upload all of the fonts used in your documents along
with your eps files. Quark does not embed the fonts in an
exported eps file. |
|
|
|
To
save as Tiff:
Follow
the instructions above for exporting an eps file. Open
the eps file(s) in Photoshop, resave as a tiff. This will
eliminate the need to include fonts with your files.

To
Save as PDF:
Quark
v6.x and later: Use the Export to PDF function found in the
File menu.
Quark
v5.x and earlier: Do not use the export to pdf function, this
does not create a compatible print ready pdf file. Download the
Export to Prepress extension from our Downloads page and load in
Quark. Use this extension to create a postscript file and run the
resulting .ps file through distiller. (You must own Acrobat Distiller
to create the pdf file) Please see our downloads page to get your
copy of the Export to Prepress Extension and Acrobat Distiller
Settings for Print Production.
To
export for prepress, choose Export for Prepress from the Utilities
menu. Match your settings with the graphic to the left. Then click
on save.
Launch
Acrobat Distiller, load our settings file, drag and drop the ps file
you just created in the step above.
